A well-fitted ring should feel comfortable and secure. It should slide over your knuckle with slight resistance and sit comfortably at the base of your finger without pinching, spinning excessively, or slipping off.
Because finger size can vary with temperature, time of day, activity, and other factors, careful measurement is important—particularly when ordering a custom or difficult-to-resize design.
Measuring Your Finger at Home
For the most dependable at-home measurement, use a plastic or metal ring-sizing tool marked in US sizes.
- Measure the exact finger on which you intend to wear the ring. The same finger may differ in size between your left and right hands.
- Measure when your hands are at a comfortable, normal temperature. Cold fingers may measure smaller, while heat, exercise, travel, or fluid retention may cause swelling.
- Slide the ring sizer over your knuckle and allow it to rest where the ring will normally sit.
- Choose a fit that is secure but comfortable. The sizer should pass over the knuckle with gentle resistance without feeling painfully tight.
- Repeat the measurement at least two or three times, preferably at different times of day.
If your measurement falls between two sizes, contact Curated Carat Couture before placing your order. The ring’s width, design, setting, and whether it will be worn with another band can affect the most appropriate size.
Measuring an Existing Ring
You may estimate your size using a ring that already fits the intended finger comfortably.
- Select a well-fitting ring worn on the same finger and hand.
- Place the ring on a flat surface.
- Using a millimeter ruler or digital caliper, measure straight across the widest part of the ring’s opening.
- Measure from inside edge to inside edge—do not include the metal band.
- Compare the inside diameter with the US ring-size chart below.
For the most accurate result, a jeweler can measure the ring using a professional ring mandrel.

Important Sizing Considerations
- Wider bands generally fit more snugly than narrow bands and may require a slightly larger size.
- The fingers on your dominant and nondominant hands may not be the same size.
- Your ring must fit over the knuckle while remaining secure at the base of the finger.
- Eternity bands, pavé settings, engraved designs, and certain custom rings may be difficult or impossible to resize.
- Printable charts, string, and strips of paper can stretch, shift, or print at the wrong scale. They should be used only as preliminary estimates.
Professional Confirmation Recommended
